Jamaica Film and Television Association (JAFTA) and the International Emerging Talent Association (IEFTA) are collaborating to give an emerging Jamaican team, the opportunity to participate in the internationally acclaimed Torino Film Lab, through its 2021 TFL Next - Film programme. This is just the latest joint initiative of JAFTA and IEFTA and part of their respective and collective efforts to provide opportunities for the development of emerging talent.

To adapt to the pandemic period, TFL NEXT provides online workshops geared at encouraging creative development and will provide:

  • intensive coaching and development training

  • further development of the project treatment

  • Group sessions

  • One-on-one sessions

  • Reworking of project materials.

  • Virtual pitching sessions

  • Develop a strong international network

  • Special online events

  • Access and/or facilitate opportunities for skills exchange and productive collaborations.

TFL NEXT - Film is focused on writer and producer or (writer-director) and producer two-person teams working on a feature film project in an early stage of development. The workshops will be Treatment-based so there is no need for a full script.

16 projects will be selected for each workshop and divided into 4 groups, to work on their treatment alongside peers and a tutor with substantial international experience as a script consultant.

The workshop will be divided into 2 development sessions. It will start with a 5 day-long session ((29th March to 3rd April, 2021), where participants discuss their work in group sessions and one-on-one meetings with their tutors. Then, participants will have 1 week to rework their materials which will be discussed in a 2 day-long session (19th and 20th April, 2021).

After the development training, all the participants will meet again in a virtual pitching session, where tutors and industry guests will give feedback on their projects. The aim of this session is to test the first reactions to the project and receive additional inputs and suggestions from highly-qualified professionals.
