Jamaica Actors Monologue Slam (JAMS)
Jamaican actors! Get ready for a great developmental and talent showcase initiative, and an opportunity to be discovered and cast for film and TV-related opportunities.
Canada Monologue Slam (CMS) is North America's largest acting showcase, which is celebrating its 10th year in 2021. The Jamaica Film and TV Association (JAFTA) is a non-profit creative industry association focused on developmental initiatives, emerging talent and advancing best practices for advancing Jamaica’s film and audio-visual sector.
JAMAICA [ACTORS] MONOLOGUE SLAM (JAMS) is a developmental initiative, by CMS and JAFTA, geared at helping emerging Jamaican actors to hone their craft, gain exposure and collaborate with other emerging Jamaican filmmaking talents.
CMS is adapting, in consultation with JAFTA and JAFTA-recommended local experts, its existing monologue slam competition to create a virtual, developmental Jamaican edition of the competition. The JAMS initiative is administered and executed by JAFTA in collaboration with CMS and with JAFTA-recommended local practitioners.
The top ten shortlisted actors would participate in at least two to three online developmental and/or mentorship sessions related to both the creative and business aspects of their craft. During the Open Call period, there will also be one Monologue Briefing and Tips session to provide limited ‘how to’ guidance to potential applicants on creating a good actor’s monologue submission.
For the final top three actors, prizes and awards will include:
-
an opportunity to audition for and/or be signed by a North American casting agency
-
a Performing Arts Scholarship to a Toronto-based performing arts college, which may include access to a private studio.
-
Professional Headshot(s)
-
Professional Demo/Actor’s Reel
The initiatives supporting partners are Shortlist Artist Management, RAW Management and Caribbean Scholarship Foundation.
